I had a wonderful, unexpected New Year’s Eve. After a change in plans and a big 48-hour power outage in Hilton, I ended up staying with my cousin and his lovely wife, who I have not spent time with in years. It was full of love, laughter, optimism and quiet reflection. I went to bed at 10pm on New Year’s Eve and woke up early on the 1st to do some yoga in the garden. What a refreshing way to start 2018.

2017 was a year of learning and development for me and my new business, Ruby Studio. It was all about putting processes in place, developing my brand, deciding on what services to offer and thinking of creative ways to stand out and attract new clients. Plus the biggest challenge of all – working out how to be productive while working from home with a baby! (Moms are my new superheroes).

2018 is all about getting more business in, being creative and working on projects I’m passionate about. My word for this year is energy. Vibrant, vital, uplifting creative energy. Igniting all I do with purpose and energy.

To achieve this I am developing a morning routine that includes stating my intention for the day, some vigorous exercise (even if it’s just dancing crazily around the house to my favourite music for a few minutes) and a moment of calming, soothing yoga. I’m going to try end my day with meditation before I go to bed. Meditation in the morning is impossible with a bouncy 18-month-old!

I took a much-needed break over this festive season. Switching off from technology, my laptop and social media. It’s really helped as I’m feeling a lot more motivated and rejuvenated compared to the days leading up to Christmas (blah).

I am excited for this year and the collaborations it holds in store. Here’s to a creative, authentic, curious and fully-lived 2018!
